Earlier today, SRG-SSR and the EBU confirmed the news Eurofans have been waiting for since Nemo’s victory in Malmö, Sweden. Basel will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with the live shows taking place on May 13, May 15 and May 17. Now the host city has revealed more locations that will be in use for the events throughout the week.
Eurovision 2025 locations across Basel
So far, a total of seven sites of interest have been designated for key roles in Basel’s hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 next May. Therefore, we have created a map as a visual guide to assist travelling Eurofans with their planning for next years’ contest to not miss out on any of the live action from the arena, Eurovillage, Euroclub and other areas of interest. Tickets for Eurovision 2025 are expected to go on sale later this year. However, as our guide shows, even if you miss out, there is always plenty to see and do! What’s more, it’s all free to explore with the 30 day Basel travel pass included with each hotel stay.
1. St. Jakobshalle (Main Venue)
Of course, the centrepiece of the action will be at the St. Jakobshalle. The venue has a capacity of 12,400 (standing) and has already hosted large events such as the World Ice Hockey Championship and the UEFA Euros in 2008. However, this capacity will decrease once the production team have installed the stage design and green room for the contest. Throughout the week of May 12-18, the venue will host 9 ticketed shows for the fans. This includes, the live Semi-Finals on May 13 and May 15, as well as the Grand Final on May 17. As well as this, there will be the three family show dress rehearsals and the three evening jury shows.
2. St. Jakob-Park (Arena Plus)
Next door to the venue in the same complex is St. Jakob-Park. The home of famous Swiss football team, FC Basel. During Eurovision week, the 40,000 capacity stadium will double up as an ‘Arena Plus’. This means that Eurovision fans who missed out on tickets for the shows will be able to watch a screening and still feel part of the action with live links to the secondary venue expected within the broadcast. Previously in 2016, Stockholm used the Tele2 Arena for this purpose too. This location is expected to be a family friendly hub of activities and performances from former Eurovision participants.
3. St Jakob Arena (Press Centre)
Behind the scenes throughout Eurovision week is the Press Centre. The core hub that becomes the home for delegations and members of accredited press and fan media. Many interviews and press conferences will be conducted here. The St. Jakob Arena is a 6.600 capacity ice hockey rink that is usually home to local team, EHC Basel. Hopefully, the welcome in the Press Centre will not be as cold as the rink!
4. Steinenvorstadt (Eurovision Street)
North-West of the main locations, Steinenvorstadt is the go to place for good dining and drinks in the city. Next May, this street is expected to become a ‘Eurovision Street’. A place for fans and travellers to enjoy and feel welcome in the nightlife district of Basel.
5. Messe & Congress Center Basel (Eurovillage & Euroclub)
North of the River Rhine is the Messe & Congress Center Basel in Messeplatz. Usually this location is known for being at the heart of events and culture, sharing close ties with France and Germany due to its proximity on the boarder. The Congress Centre boasts five large halls and 25 conference spaces. Offering versatility in events and space for thousands of travelling fans. Ideal then to host Euroclub! The afterparty every Eurofan seeks after the shows, where fans party long into the night and enjoy a schedule of guest performances from Eurovision stars past and present.
During the day, this area will also be the location for the Eurovillage. A key location for those with or without tickets. A detailed music and entertainment will be provided closer to the time. However, it is expected there will be performances from local artists, as well as Eurovision artists and broadcasts of the live shows. This area is supported by its many surrounding hotels, shops, food outlets and good local transport connections for those commuting to and from St. Jakobshalle. The line 14 tram will take under 20mins.
6. Barfüsserplatz
The Barfüsserplatz is situated in the old town of Basel and is well connected at the heart of the city with its eight tram lines. A stage for local bands to perform and welcome visitors with the regions music heritage, will be constructed in this location.
7. Rhine river bank of Kleinbasel
Along the banks of the River Rhine is the picturesque Kleinbasel or ‘Little Basel’ as its locally known. Although few details are known at this time, this area is expected to also be a key visitor attraction during Eurovision week. The area is another location popular for its nightlife and trendy local restaurants. A go to destination for creativity and local culture.
