LTV receives 96 submissions for Supernova 2025

The national broadcaster of Latvia, LTV, has received 96 submissions for next year’s Supernova final, the contest that will choose Latvia’s Eurovision 2025 entry in Switzerland next year.

Supernova will take place in February 2025.

Submissions ‘not increased’ but heavy competition still expected

The number of submissions is a decrease from the 108 submitted last year. However, a senior figure at LTV, Agnese Kublina , was positive about the competition to come:

‘Participants have a wide range of talents, representing different musical genres – from already known names to very young talents. The show promises to be a real music adventure! In addition, more surprises are expected this year than ever before. Many already beloved artists are returning, confirming that the Eurovision Song Contest is a unique opportunity to reach a huge audience around the world’

Agnes Kublina, Head of the Editorial Board of Entertainment and Documentary Content of Latvian Television

LTV will broadcast the final, and a jury, both made up of representatives from the Latvian music industry and foreign professionals, will evaluate the entries for songwriting quality, vocal quality, and potential on a continental stage. Recent Supernovas have also included a televote.

Further information will be reported upon as it is released, likely sometime in the next few months.

Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Latvia were the last of the three Baltic states to make their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, first appearing in 2000 with the band Brainstorm and ‘My Star’. They won on their third attempt in 2002 with Marie N’s ‘I Wanna’ and hosted the following contest in Riga.

Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004 Latvia’s results have been more mixed. Despite making the final four more times in the 00s, since 2009 they have appeared in the final only 3 times, Aminata and Justs putting forward alt pop efforts in 2015 and 2016, and after 6 contests (and 2020) away from the final, 2024. Dons’ ‘Hollow’ brought Latvia back to the Saturday final, finishing 16th.
