The Reviews
Vincent
Not my personal favourite, but my runner-up, easily. Mentissa had a limited staging in the showcase but was already more convincing than almost everybody else. The song is catchy, radio-friendly, and has this feeling of being “not very Eurovision-esque but could do well there nonetheless”. The fact that Vianney, whose songs I also quite like, co-wrote the song, is no stranger to the excellence of this entry.

Belgium having one of the strongest selections of the year was not on my bingo card! Usually I’d be very indifferent to a song with Soul/Funk production, but Mentissa is such a charismatic performer that you can’t help, but want to move to that infectious chorus. It helps that the French language gives it that, cool, sleek, polish. I could imagine Bruno Mars doing a really successful English version of this. I’m all for Eurovision having sounds that do well in the commercial charts.
