Wow! What a COMEback. Erika’s discography is all killer no filler. Once again she blurs the lines of innuendo and showcasing an expression of sexuality through sonic pleasure. The musical intelligence to build the intensity of the production into another layer of innuendo is sublime. The abrupt ending before the climax, which leaves the listener as bemused as Erika’s disappointment at a lover that hasn’t quite delivered. Not forgetting, the risqué usage of the German ‘Ich Komme’ chant. Of course, German being a popular language in the adult entertainment industry. Before anyone says it’s too much for Eurovision, we literally had Sweden 2004 with Lena thrusting against a microphone stand to a song with just as much lyrical innuendo. Let’s hope this delivers a big finish on Saturday night to take Erika to the Basel stage!

UMK gives us once again a high-quality selection, and there are no songs I wouldn’t listen to on repeat in it. “Ich Komme” is not my winner but it seems likely it will be the winner, and what a winner it could be! It’s bold, it’s very much “Erika”, and I have no doubt the staging will get that accross too.
Yet, it’s a bit too experimental for me: for example, the the shift in the chorus is symply not my cup of tea. I get the “metaphor” behind the shifts and turns of the melody and rythm, but on a first listen it’s a bit too much, and once on the Eurovision stage, the first listen is important.
And lyrically it’s fun and hot, but I prefer the “Hoida Mut” approach, which actually had some sort of narrative going on.

I’ve waited for the return of Erika Vikman since her iconic performance of Cicciolina, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure if this lived up to the hype at first. However, after spending a day saying “ich komme” under my breath, I realised how catchy this song is. Given her life performance skills, I expect Erika to smash this out of the park and can’t wait to see her stun Europe in May!
