Germany will not be participating the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025, broadcaster KiKA has announced. They will however broadcast the competition.
In a statement, KiKA has said:
In 2025, KiKA will broadcast and accompany the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the largest children’s singing competition in Europe, in a great live show. Germany will not be represented with its own participant.
This follows Germany switching to SWR as the responsible broadcaster for Eurovision, taking over from NDR. The move to a different broadcaster seems to have affected the country’s timing and preparation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as well.
This is the second time KiKA will not send a German representative to Junior Eurovision while still opting to broadcast the event; this previously occurred in 2022, when the contest was hosted in Yerevan.
In 2024, Germany was represented at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid by Bjarne, with his song “Save the Best for Us”. The country reached 11th place out of 17 participants.
The date and location for Junior Eurovision 2025 has not yet been determined. Unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, in Junior Eurovision the winning country is not automatically the host country for the next edition. So far, eight countries have announced their participation: Georgia, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, and San Marino.
