Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest

In 1956, Switzerland hosted the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano, which they also won with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. Over the years, Switzerland have had mixed results with 15 further top five finishes but also five last places in the final, including three “nul points”.

Their second and most recent win to date came in 1988 with “Ne partez pas sans moi” sung by a young Céline Dion. Switzerland won the contest with 137 points, just one point ahead of the United Kingdom in second place.

Since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004, Switzerland have made five finals. Most recently, in 2019, they finished 4th in the grand final with Luca Hänni’s “She Got Me” – which was Switzerland’s best result since 1993. Gjon’s Tears was set to represent the country in 2020 with “Répondez-moi”.
