RTCG to open Eurovision 2022 submission next week

Montenegro sets out their journey to Turin

The broadcaster responsible for the Montenegrin representation at the Eurovision Song Contest – RTCG has announced that they will start their journey to Turin next week by announcing the selection method they will use to choose their 12th representative for the balkan nation.

An awaited return

The 2022 contest will see the end of a three year absence for Montenegro after withdrawing from the 2020 and 2021 editions. Despite the fact there was pressure from native artists from Montenegro putting pressure on their broadcaster to return to the contest.

It seems that RTCG are being very proactive for this coming year as no sooner as the 41 competing nations were announced, including Montenegro they have already put out communication that next week we will find out how Montenegro and RTCG will select their participant.

Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest

Upon gaining independence in 2006, Montenegro applied to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Debut entrant Stevan Faddy failed to qualify from the 28 country semi final. Two further attempts in the late 2000s yielded the same result. Upon returning in 2012, Montenegro found greater fortune, qualifying in succession in both 2014 and 2015. Their best result came in 2015, where Knez came 13th with his song ‘Adio’.

Their latest entry came in 2019, where group D-Mol failed to qualify with their song ‘Heaven’. The country missed out on the 2020 and 2021 contests, but is set to return in 2022!
