Israel selects the 8 entries for Eurovision 2022 selection

Israel will select their entry for Turin in February

Israeli broadcaster IPBC have confirmed to EuroMix that eight entries have been selected for the final of The X Factor Israel 2022, which will be used as the selection to find Israel’s entry for Eurovision next year in Turin. The final will be held in early February, later than original plans which reported that The X Factor would conclude in January.

130 entries were submitted to the broadcaster, which is the lowest number of submissions in Israel since 2018. The eight final entries were selected by a committee over the month and a half. The committee consisted of TV and radio representatives from Israel. The entries will be revealed at a later date.

Only four songs to be performed in the final

According to EuroMix, preliminary shows will be held in order to select one entry for each of the four finalists. In the preliminary shows, each finalist will perform two of the entries, with the audience and the judges being given the opportunity to select their favourite entry for the artist to perform in the final show.

The final will see each artist perform their selected entry with the winner being selected to represent Israel at Eurovision 2022, which will be held in Turin. Reshet 13 will broadcast the final in early February 2022.

The selected songwriters will now have an opportunity to prepare a new and adapted version of their entry for the X Factor finalists.

About X Factor Israel

The Israeli verson of the multinational franchise has aired previously three times. Despite the first and second series airing in 2013-2014 and 2015, the third series aired in 2018. All series so far have been hosted by Bar Rafaeli who also cohosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel-Aviv.

The third series was won by Eden Alene who went on to also win Hakokhav Haba in 2020. She was due to represent Israel in 2020 with the song “Feker Libi”, but unfortunately she couldn’t represent Israel due to the pandemic. However, Israel re-selected Eden for 2021, who eventually finished 17th in the Grand Final in Rotterdam with “Set Me Free” after a public song selection process.

Although the judging panel initially included Simon Cowellwho expressed his excitement at what Israel’s edition of the franchise will offer, he later withdrew. The panel will now include Eurovision 2018 winner Netta, Ran Danker, Miri Mesika, Aviv Geffen and Margalit Tzan’ani.
