After announcing a few days ago that (as of now) Israel would not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, the EBU and Israeli broadcaster KAN have released an update regarding the security options available for Israel’s delegation in Turin. Michael Ben David is set to perform “I.M” at the contest.
On Tuesday, KAN announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strikes in the country are affecting security protocols for Eurovision. This would mean that the country would have to withdraw from the contest, with Michael Ben David not performing in Turin.
The EBU have released a statement to ESCToday regarding the decision by the Israeli broadcaster stating that:
We are aware of the statement made by KAN this morning [Tuesday] and are in dialogue with them about Israel’s continued participation in this year’s event.

Following this statement, the Israeli General Security Service (GSS) announced they would be re-examining the security issue and trying to find alternative solutions for the Israeli delegation to travel to Turin. In response, the Israeli broadcaster told Mako that:
The corporation is in direct contact with the relevant elements in the GSS to enable Michael Ben David to represent Israel on the Eurovision stage. The ministry stands its ground and does not intend to assist in providing the information necessary to regulate security services. The corporation thanks the GSS for its assistance and hopes that a solution to the crisis will be found soon.

Israel at Eurovision 2022
Back in February, Michael Ben David won X Factor Israel with “I.M”, beating runner-up Eli Huli with “Blinded Dreamers” by just one point. Later that month, it was announced that Marvin Dietmann will serve as the artistic director for Michael’s performance in Turin. The music video for “I.M” was released in March, with a revamped version of the song ahead of the contest.
If they compete, Israel will perform in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2022 on May 12th, starting in the second position after show-openers Finland.
