In the aftermath of a controversial Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Ireland’s representative Bambie Thug has now confirmed an investigation by the EBU is underway into alleged incidents reported by the Irish delegation.
EBU to investigate Irish delegation complaints
During a fractious contest, which saw The Netherlands disqualified on the day of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Grand Final, as well as numerous complaints from artists and broadcasters, Ireland’s Bambie Thug has now confirmed further investigations will take place into the events that impacted their Eurovision experience.
In an interview on Ireland AM, Bambie Thug confirmed that the EBU is now looking into their complaint. This follows a series of incidents raised by the Irish delegation during their time in Malmö.
We are currently under investigation from EBU/UER. That’s why I can’t say much about Eurovision. Once the investigation is over, I’ll tell you what happened to me.
Initial concerns arose when Bambie Thug failed to arrive for the flag parade in the last dress rehearsal ahead of the Grand Final. Due to a situation that required, “urgent attention.” The EBU were made aware of this at the time. Further incidents were highlighted surrounding comments made by the Israeli broadcaster KAN towards Bambie.
KAN, the broadcaster, incited violence against me twice, three times. We brought it up to the EBU. They said they’d follow up.
The 31-year-old singer, became one of the more active voices throughout the contest, using their platform to highlight the ongoing situation in Gaza. During the Grand Final, Bambie achieved Ireland’s best result since 2000. Taking ‘Doomsday Blue’ to sixth place, with a total of 278 points.
