XTRA Rehearsals — Last batch of second rehearsals for the second semi-finalists

Today is the third day of second rehearsals in Basel, with the last second semi-finalists rehearsing during shorter slots of 20m. The Eurovision social accounts have been publishing the traditional second rehearsal videos, which are short extracts of the TV feed from each performance. The Eurovision website has also released new pictures for each rehearsal.

Below, you can find all the videos in the larger Youtube format (unlisted but made available by the Eurovision app), as well as the new details they and the photos might reveal, and links to the notes taken from the first rehearsal of each country. In this article, we cover the last countries of the semi-final.

You can find our reviews of the previous second rehearsals in the links below:

The videoclip ends just before the middle-eight of “La poupée, comme tu l’appelles / Fait monter les décibels!”, with a dance routine clearly ready to set off on the frame stage. The back LED screen displays a giant doll house. We don’t see the prop that was mentioned in the first rehearsal: it’s either gone or is taken off stage during the performance (or we just misunderstood the live blogger, who knows?).

In one of the pictures, it appears that four of the dancers are holding the fifth one to stop him from falling, possibly after being rejected by Laura during an earlier routine.

The revamped version of “Mila” works very well here, and we actually see the moment Princ is dragged off the mainstage and on the walkway, his hair protecting his skull from the floor.

The pictures do not reveal anything new, but they show the moment Princ is dragged by his feet on the walkway from the side, so here it is:

We entitled our first review “same concept, bigger stage” and this is not trying to disprove it. The video does show ho every single projector is used in the performance, with a hazy, smoky atmosphere making sure that the lights are very visible and very efficient.

The pictures do not give us much more information, but do confirm even more the scale of the mic and the height of the last section of the song. Just like in UMK, this will require some camera angles out of the way, probably over the crowd, to give Erika time to climb on the prop.

And we’re done with the semi-finalists and their second rehearsals! Th next step for them is their respective dress rehearsals, on Monday (semi 1) and Wednesday (semi 2). We will attend these in the arena, so stay tuned on ESCXTRA! But we will be on the ground even earlier, starting tomorrow, to bring you all the latest from Basel, including the Turquoise Carpet, the dress rehearsal, and more.
