ORF, Austria’s broadcaster, has released sketches of the planned design of the Vienna 2026 Postcard. The postcards are described as a ‘fusion of the analogue and digital world.’
The ‘postcards’ at the contest are an integral part of the aesthetic of the contest; it is a way for the host country to inject their own personality and art style throughout the contest proceedings, as well as showcasing the artist about to perform.
As stated on the Eurovision website:
Each Postcard begins with a scene of the artists viewing a postcard from Austria against the backdrop of their home country. The camera then ‘enters’ the postcard, and suddenly the performers find themselves in the middle of Austrian scenery – fully immersed in the world of the postcard. At the end of each Postcard, the participants pose for a selfie in front of the Austrian backdrop. The shot then freezes, the camera pulls back, and the Postcard is then pinned on display.

The postcards are being created by Gebhardt Productions, a movie studio based in Mödling. Filming for postcards can typically begin quite early in the Eurovision season, with this year being no exception as they commenced filming in October, to ensure that Austria is captured in as many seasons as possible.
It has also been announced that the postcards we see on screen will be produced as real ‘physical’ printed postcards that fans will be able to collect and send as real souvenirs.

ORF are also injecting historical context into their postcards; Austria was actually the first country to send a government approved ‘correspondence card’ in 1869 by the Carinthian Emanuel Herrmann. This is something that ORF are aiming to pay homage to with their concept, as well as setting new standards in creative design.
