The next artist to rehearse today is Ela Mangion from Malta. We have just watched the latest run through of Samen. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Music video inspiration for Ela from Malta – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes As this is my first day here in the press center in Minsk, it was the first time I saw the show. However, based on the previous article, I can tell that in this case as well there are no major changes to the performance. The show starts with a close-up shot of Ela and initially it starts off as quite dark but then lights up, with yellow being the main colour as seen in the X of the dancers. Snippets of the music video still appear on the big LED screens.  Unsurprisingly, Ela’s vocals are spot on …

We have just watched the latest run through of Anyone I Want To Be. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Roksana Węgiel channels Sertab Erener for Poland! – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes There is a lot going on in the Polish performance, therefore it comes across how much tidier all the camerawork and choreography is this time around. Any camera shots of dancers running across the screen have been edited and now it is much more effective as a big pop performance. In addition, Roksana is really going for those big notes, hitting them perfectly! The performance begins with a camera shot of the LED floor before switching to black and white whilst Roksana is wearing her VR goggles. There’s numbers running across the LEDs which …

The next artist to rehearse today is Rita Laranjeira from Portugal. We have just watched the latest run through of Gosto de Tudo (Já Não Gosto de Nada). Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Portrait mode for Rita Laranjeira from Portugal! – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes The ‘boomerang’ style camera shot effect has been tweaked to make it more obvious, the Facebook live portrait mode camera has now got filters on each swipe over the camera and the Instagram gallery style camera shot change has been removed.  Rita is so engaging with the camera, she really sells it with all the recognisable social media effects throughout the performance. Other than this, Portugal have picked some tighter camera angles for Rita’s walk to the satellite stage and it’s a really effective visual performance. Rehearsal video clips How to …

Day 4: 🇷🇺 Russia gives Anna Filipchuk’s performance dynamism and focus

ESCXTRA are live from Minsk for day 4 of rehearsals ahead of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018!  Today’s schedule Today, the countries rehearsing for the second time, in chronological order, are Wales, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Serbia, Russia, Portugal, Poland, Malta, Kazakhstan and Italy. Have a look at the full detailed rehearsal schedule by clicking here! The next artist to rehearse today is Anna Filipchuk from Russia. We have just watched the latest run through of Unbreakable. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Anna Filipchuk unleashes her inner rock chick for Russia – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes In the verses, the band members have been darkened so that the lighting and the focus is all on Anna. The lights come up in full for the chorus so that you can see Anna and the band all together.  Russia are reliant on crowd shots and even one of the green room. We’ve spotted a CO2 canister pyro at the front of stage going off in the choruses, so that’s the first we’ve seen of any additional pyrotechnics.  There’s more focus on Anna in camera shots now, and far fewer of the band, which has …
Day 4: 🇷🇸 Bojana expressively tells her story of the world for Serbia

The next artist to rehearse today is Bojana Radovanović from Serbia. We have just watched the latest run through of Svet. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Bojana Radovanović is full of stage presence for Serbia – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes We seem to have a few camera angle changes in this rehearsal that show the full width of the stage. We see the LED backdrop in its full glory, consisting of clouds in the foreground and a city landscape on the background. There’s gold lighting beams from above the LED backdrop that represent the sunshine above the clouds, this gently moves vertically which looks very effective with Bojana performing in front of it. Towards the end of the song when she runs to the B-stage, Bojana sprinkles glitter from her raised hands before blowing it in …

The next artist to rehearse today is Max & Anne from The Netherlands. We have just watched the latest run through of Samen. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Max & Anne are ‘Together’ on the big screens – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes I was not here for the first rehearsal but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the performance. The performance starts with the two dancers on the satellite stage and the silhouette of Max and Anne appears before the camera focuses on them. As in the first rehearsal, Max is wearing a shining black jacket and jeans and Anne is wearing a white long-sleeved dress. The performance throughout features close up camera shots of both participants and their image in the LED screens is also prominent in the performance.  When the songs slows …

The next artist to rehearse today is Darina Krasnovetska from Ukraine. We have just watched the latest run through of Say Love. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: An edgy performance and important message from Ukraine’s Darina – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes The Ukrainian rehearsal was already one of the most polished on Wednesday, and we only see very minor tweaks here. Darina has red heart stickers on her cheeks which could be interpreted as the alternative to war paint, enforcing the message of love and not war. During the post-chorus, the camera effects seem to be even more dramatic and frantic in its horizontal stripes across the screen. It really looks fantastic. One final thing that I didn’t notice on Wednesday, whether it’s a new addition or not, is the when the LEDs are showing “ljubov” …

The next artist to rehearse today is Manw from Wales. We have just watched the latest run through of Say Love. Now, let’s compare the differences between the first and second rehearsals! First rehearsal recap Day 2: Wales makes its debut on the Junior Eurovision stage – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes The most noticeable alteration today is that Wales have added a touch of glittery red eyeshadow to Manw. A few small camera changes in order to frame the young group of performers better in places, but there’s some great close-up work for the expressive arm movements throughout. First rehearsal recap Day 1: Pink, pink and more pink for Efi Gjika and Albania! – REVIEW Second rehearsal changes For this second rehearsal of Albania, there seems to be a few more audience shots of the children doing the choreographed dance moves which we’ve seen them do throughout the day for each performance. There’s a lots of wide shots for Efi’s performance, which shows off the sheer size of the stage and the pink Barbie LEDs Albania are using. Efi’s confidence continues to increase as she interacts with the camera effortlessly, specifically during the instrumental post-chorus! Rehearsal video clips How to vote!
