Is Tel Aviv now closer to hosting Israel 2019?

Israeli broadcaster, KAN, has released the criteria that the 2019 host city will have to adhere to. One specific requirement is that rehearsals must take place during Shabbat – something that Jerusalem is expected to push back on. This may well pave the way for Tel Aviv 2019, especially as the Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa has said that his region take meet all of the set criteria.

Jay Aston in recovery after surgery

Jay Aston, who won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest as part of Bucks Fizz, is in recovery after undergoing surgery. The operation is part of her treatment after being diagnosed with mouth cancer. Everyone at ESCXTRA would like to wish Jay a speedy recovery.

Belgium confirms intention to participate in Eurovision 2019

According to eurovisionbelgium.be, Belgium has confirmed its intention to participate in the 2019 contest with broadcaster, Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF) taking the reins.

This week, ESCXTRA contacted the EBU and the team behind Eurovision Asia for an update on when the contest will take place. The full statement is in the article but, in short, work is “still ongoing” and “early in the development process.”

RTS open Swiss submissions for Eurovision 2019

Switzerland’s French language broadcaster, RTS, has begun its search for its potential Israel 2019 entry. RTS will utilise radio station, Option Musique, for the song submission process.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: BHRT decline Ralph Siegel’s sponsorship

BHRT, the national broadcaster in charge of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in theEurovision Song Contest, declined Ralph Siegel’s offer of money to help them cover the cost of their participation in 2019. This further disappoints fans who are wishing for a Eurovision return for the Balkan nation.
