The 2021 edition of Georgia’s Junior Eurovision selection process “Ranina” may have only just reached its conclusion, but broadcaster GPB has already begun its applications process for the 2022 edition of “Ranina”. Whilst this doesn’t officially confirm the nation’s participation in next year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, it is safe to assume that “Ranina” will almost certainly be used for this purpose.
The beginnings of “Ranina”
“Ranina” was launched in 2018 following the nation’s first hosting of a Eurovision event when Junior Eurovision 2017 took place in capital city Tbilisi. Tamar Edilashvili was the first champion of the event and her internally selected song “Your Voice” earned eighth place in Minsk. Nevertheless, the selection’s highest Junior Eurovision placing so far was a sixth place finish earned by Sandra Gadelia last year with “You Are Not Alone”.
Nikoloz Kajaia carries Georgian hopes in 2021
This year, Nikoloz Kajaia was crowned the winner of “Ranina” and will take “Let’s Count the Smiles” to Paris next month for the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Georgia will be hoping to add to their three Junior Eurovision Song Contest victories to date: Bzikebi in 2008, Candy in 2011 and Mariam Mamadashvili in 2016.
