Editorials & Opinion

What’s next for the United Kingdom?

The backing vocalists.
The backing vocalists should not be prominent in the show. They are backing – they should stay in the back. If this has really become a karaoke competition – as many say – then why the BBC hasn’t started playing by the karaoke rules?
Sometimes, performances with big choirs can get messy and difficult to hear. Having an idea of the show closer to the X Factor, the harmonics and vocals are always modelled in an old fashioned this-year-is-Cheryl-doing-the-groups way.
Blue on stage were singing a very strange version of their entry, far away from the studio version that everyone liked. At the same time: the very fragile voice of Molly Smitten Downs was over staged by the presence of very visible and audible backing vocalists. Again: backing. Should stay in the back.

See what France can teach here? Backing: sometimes a distraction!
