๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia: Montaigne teases details of potential Eurovision 2021 entry

Will her "totally f****d" song make it to Eurovision?

Back in April,ย SBS announced that Montaigne will return to represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. She had been set to represent the country at the 2020 contest,ย prior to the contestโ€™s cancellation. Having teased a โ€œtotally f****dโ€ potential entry back in the summer, Montaigne has given more details in a recent stream.

Back in August, Montaigne posted a string of tweets revealing that she had written and (presumably) recorded a demo for a potential entry, describing it as โ€œtotally f****dโ€.

Appearing as a guest on theย Dragon Friends Twitch stream, she went on to describe what is possibly the aforementioned entry:

But I am pretty sure I have a song. Itโ€™s called โ€œJC Ultraโ€ and itโ€™s a reference to MKUltra, that f****d brainwashing program that the CIA tried to do back in the day, in the โ€™70s or the โ€™80s. Itโ€™s about a society of aliens that has a major music label as a front for a brainwashing program where they try to brainwash potential music celebrities to go out and spout pro-alien propaganda to try and help the aliens to integrate into human society better and covertly usurp human power.

She also explained that her management had discussed bringing in international songwriters to work on her Eurovision 2021 entry. Whether we’ll ever hear “JC Ultra”, let alone whether the song will make it to the contest, remains to be seen.

You can watch the interview back here (Eurovision chat stats around 2:11:00 in).

Montaigne at Eurovision (so far)

Montaigne was set to represent Australia at the 2020 contest after winning Eurovision: Australia Decides in February. She would have performed the song, โ€œDonโ€™t Break Meโ€, in the first semi-final in Rotterdam on May 12th. However, she will have to send a new song due to the EBU announcing that the 2020 entries would not be eligible for next yearโ€™s contest.

Iโ€™m very keen to make new music, to produce a new song and figure out a new performance for next year. Iโ€™m sad I couldnโ€™t do this yearโ€™s because I thought it was going to be really cool but really happy to get another chance at itโ€ฆ Stay tuned and watch this space because thereโ€™ll be stuff to come.

She also said that she was keen to produce her new entry for the contest, and urges people to โ€œstay tunedโ€. Whether or not we will get to hear the song sheโ€™s teasing remains to be seen, but we hope we do!

Ever since I saw Helena Paparizou's triumph at Eurovision in 2005 (at the tender age of 6), I have been crazy about Eurovision. From the regional native language bops and shrieky female-led balladry to the sophisticated avant garde pop songs and chart-friendly EDM, I love everything about this cultural phenomenon. I'm currently working as a Delivery Manager in a software development team.
