Another week comes to an end and that means it’s New Music Friday! So it’s time to share the best new releases from the Eurovision world this week. Over the following pages is everything you need to know for your weekend playlists!
Stefania – ‘Words’
First up on New Music Friday is Greek-Dutch Eurovision star Stefania. Since Rotterdam, where she took Greece back to the top 10 for the first time since 2013 with ‘Last Dance‘, she has followed that with ‘Voor Een Ander‘ and ‘Mucho Calor‘. Now she’s back with new single ‘Words’. These words are a revamped cover of the classic 80s hit by famous French singer, F.R. David. Together with Dimitris Kontopoulos, Stefania gives this a modern update with a festive twist. Hopefully the words will come easy for Stefania, as she is due to perform the song in Greece’s Madwalk 2021 and Cyprus’ Super Music Awards.
I am so grateful and honoured that the writers of the song have given me permission for a cover and even adapted part of the lyrics especially for me.

Zucherro, Mahmood – ‘Natural Blues’
Next up, Sanremo legends old and new unite in a new collaboration. This week Zucherro releases his covers album Discover, a tribute to the meaningful songs that speak to what Italy’s people have gone through over the past 2-years. Included on the album is a cover of Moby’s version of Vera Hall’s ‘Trouble So Hard’. Together they offer a new twist to the song which would be fitting for any cowboy entry music in a Western film. Meanwhile, Zucherro had the following to say about working with Mahmood.
I always thought from the beginning, from the first time I heard him, that Mahmood was very gifted vocally. That he had a very particular voice and above all I always considered his soulful voice. He has a flying phrasing, very aerial, and he is very talented. Even in the studio it was very easy to work with him.

Little Big – ‘A Lot of Money’
‘Uno’ stars Little Big are back this week with their trademark honesty on society. We all want ‘A Lot of Money’ right? With their catchy, repetitive, hooks, Little Big share how they’ve been trying to earn money outside of music recently. The groups soloist, Sonya Tayurskaya has been taking part in Russian game show Rat Race. A show inspired by Netflix hit Squid Game. Not quite as graphic as Netflix, this show sees players undergo a series of tests, until only one remains to win half a million roubles. The song itself pays tribute to The Prodigy hit ‘Firestarter’ and features the word money over 200 times! See a preview of the show below.
Electric Fields – ‘Gold Energy’
Following recent releases such as ‘Would I Lie’ with KEiiNO and ‘Must Be Love’, the indigenous neo-soul duo Electric Fields from Australia Decides 2019, return this week with new single ‘Gold Energy’. That energy is released in a wave of vibrant synths and pulsating beats, matching the pace of Zaachariaha Fielding’s mix of English and Anangu. Equally striking is the new music video. Which brings forward a message of connection between people and the animal kingdom. Next year Electric Fields are back on tour across Australia, with tickets available here.
