Alexandra Redde-Amiel, the French Head of Delegation, gave an interview to the music website ChartsInFrance, in which she gave more details about the French entry, which is to be revealed tonight live from the Eiffel Tower.
A famous Swedish team behind the song
When France went internal again for 2020, they opened the songs submissions to foreign writers. After receiving “about a hundred” songs, the French team chose a song written by Eurovision-alumni Swedes : Thomas G:Son, Peter Boström (writers of “Euphoria”), and John Lundvik (Sweden 2019).
The song has been described as a power ballad, with pop-folk elements.
The song is a ballad, what I call a performance. It’s in both categories. We wanted something that hits your guts. […] It’s more than a song, it’s a moment. It triggers loads of powerful things when you listen to it.
Alexandra Redde-Amiel
The delegation chose the song before the singer, and saw Tom Leeb as “the perfect match”. After singing the song and bringing his voice to it, “he brought to the song the cherry on the cake”.
Reveal live from the Eiffel Tower
On Friday night, during the Victoires de la Musique 2020 (the French Grammy Awards), it was revealed that Tom Leeb would uncover his song live from the Eiffel Tower.
The reveal will take place on the first platform of the tower, with a view on the Champ de Mars and the rest of Paris, live at 20:50 CET on France 2, but also internationally on TV5 Monde, Facebook Live, Instagram, and the France Télévisions website.
