Our New Music Friday top 10 of 2020

6. 🇷🇺 Little Big – ‘Tacos’ – (60 Points)

Just missing out on the top 5… It was a very big 2020 for internet meme sensations Little Big! After many years of rumours Russia finally delivered like Santa to give us the naughty but nice act for Eurovision 2020. Sadly the contest had to be cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Yet that did not stop the group teaching us how to count in Spanish, as they became the numero uno most viewed Eurovision entry of all time on YouTube! As well as joining the select few Eurovision acts to feature in the Just Dance video gaming series.

Meanwhile they have kept busy releasing the satirical bangers they are known for such as, ‘Hypnodance’ and their cover of ‘Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)’ which was used in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Yet we were hungry for ‘Tacos’ in 2020. Hopefully Little Big will feed us another banger in 2021. Currently their return has not been confirmed. However, in a recent interview they did reveal they would submit an entry for next year.

5. 🇸🇪 Carola & Zara Larsson – ‘Säg Mig Var Du Står’ – (66 Points)

Sweden’s Eurovision 1991 winner Carola returned to music with a bang(er) after a 9 year absence since her last single. However she made it count, teaming up with none other than international pop star and Carola superfan Zara Larsson. The hints were there as early as January of this year when Zara Larsson took to Instagram to reveal she was bopping to Carola’s 1983 hit, ‘Säg Mig Var Du Står’. So it came as no surprise during the Late Night Concert special on TV4 this summer, to see the two perform it together. Putting a modern twist on this Schlager classic later inspired them to release it as a single. Which proved a successful decision, as it soon stormed the Swedish charts to peak at number 2! Lately Carola has been busy bringing the festive cheer with her Christmas concert Jul hemma med Carola. As well as finding time to reunite with Zara in the Idol Final to show the next generation how it’s done.

4. 🇮🇱 Ella Lee – ‘Zot Ani’ – (67 Points)

Just missing out on the podium… Although it was Eden Alene that pipped Ella Lee to the post in ‘The Next Star’ to become Israel’s 2020 and 2021 artist, the former has enjoyed incredible success of her own this year. Thanks to the power of TikTok and its catchy K-Pop style hooks, ‘Zot Ani’ became a viral sensation. Since then she has released the equally infectious ‘Ma Atta Rotse?’ and showing that at just 17 years old, she is one to watch!
