🇱🇻 Latvia will not return to Junior Eurovision this year

They last took part in Yerevan in 2011

Latvian broadcaster LTV has confirmed to Eurofestivales that they will not be returning to Junior Eurovision this year. The 2020 contest is set to be held in Warsaw on 29 November.

Latvia last took part in Junior Eurovision in 2011, where they finished in last place. They have not returned to the contest since, despite rumours in 2016 that they would be making a comeback alongside Estonia and Lithuania.

It’s a no from Latvia!

Latvia has taken part in the contest five times – between 2003 and 2005, and again in 2010 and 2011. They were one of the sixteen countries that made their debut in the first ever Eurovision, which was held in Copenhagen.

Speaking to Eurofestivales, LTV’s press department confirmed that they had no intentions to return to the contest in 2020, citing no reason why they wouldn’t return. Last year, the broadcaster stated that they would be focusing on the main Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision Choir instead.

Making their debut at the 2003 contest, Latvia sent Dzintars Čīča to perform in Copenhagen. They finished in 9th place with 37 points. In 2004, Latvia failed to gather support from across Europe finishing in last place with just 3 points.

They competed again in 2005 before taking a four-contest break between 2006 and 2009. They returned to the contest in 2010, when they scored their highest points total, with 51 points. Their most recent entry came from Amanda Bašmakova who performed “Moondog” in Yerevan. For the second time, Latvia finished last place with 31 points.

Would you like to see Latvia returning to the contest in the future? Do you think they would do better if they made a comeback?
