XTRA Decides continues this Eurovision 2022 season. In this feature the team here at ESCXTRA rank the national final songs, giving our choice of the winner. We are ranking the songs using the Eurovision style 12-1 scoring system. We’ve now chosen BESS with ‘Ram pam pam’ as our winner of Finland’s UMK national selection.

Ding ding ding! We have a BANGER ALARM! I absolutely want The Rasmus in Turin, but this hits so hard. Finnish is a brilliant language for an angry pop diva like BESS and I am living for it. This just ticks all the boxes for a great car driving song. Imagine driving for hours and getting this on your shuffle? It’d bring your energy levels up back to sky high starting point. RAM PAM PAM, bring it on.
Costa (10pts)
PLEASE FINLAND, PLEASE! This is easily one of the most high-impact pop songs from this year’s national final. The production is punchy, intense and relentless, making it a worthy, yet unexpected, follow-up to Dark Side. Judging from the music video, BESS will sell the absolute hell out of this song, so I’m hoping for a dynamic stage show for the UMK Final. Seeing as the song has been holding its own against The Rasmus’ entry, I’m praying it can rise above their legacy votes to win the ticket to Turin.

Everything about this is fierce and high impact from the first note to the last. The hook is so catchy, especially with the melodic Finnish vowels. Being in the native language gives it even more edge. BESS’ raspy tone in this rock-Schlager anthem reminds me of another Finnish artist, Kaija Koo. So I was always going to love this! One of my favourite songs to come from Finland, although I fear they will want to back up Blind Channel’s success with other similar songs again.
