Our New Music Friday top 10 of 2022

Check out our round-up of 2022 and how the team ranked the entries!

6. 🇬🇷 Anna Vissi ft. Daphne Lawrence – ‘Aima’ – (46 Points)

Even at 65 there is no stopping Anna Vissi. With one of the most illustrious careers in the Greek music industry, the twice representative of Greece and also a former representative for Cyprus, continues to showcase why that success still thrives. Taking young singer-songwriter Daphne Lawrence under her wing, the duo shed blood and beats on their collaborative single, ‘Aima’. In an ironic twist of the lyrics portraying scorned women still feeling resentment over a past love, Anna Vissi recently ended her rumoured decades long real life feud with Despina Vandi!

5. 🇬🇧 Sam Ryder – ‘Somebody’ – (53 Points)

Of course there’s national pride in what Sam Ryder has achieved in flipping the perception of Eurovision on its head in the United Kingdom and making it relevant to young and old alike. So it is no surprise that the long-haired crooner makes it a double on our New Music Friday top 10 of 2022 list. However it is his solo single, ‘Somebody’ that made the biggest impression with us. The first single following that famed night in Turin, ‘Somebody’ fully embraces Sam’s natural charisma and can do attitude to show everyone deserves to have somebody in their lives that makes them feel as upbeat as the melodic song itself.

4. 🇮🇹 Måneskin – ‘THE LONELIEST’ – (58 Points)

Only dropping two places on their runner-up spot last year, the 2021 Eurovision winners have capitalised on their global reach during an equally busy 2022. They bagged nominations for the BRIT Awards, made it to Saturday Night Live, won an award at the MTV EMAs, have performed at Coachella and recently received nominations for next years’ Grammys! As well as this, Måneskin finally embarked on their postponed world tour. When they eventually found time in their packed schedule to hit the studio, we were treated to ‘SUPERMODEL‘ – which of course took centre stage on their return to Eurovision for the Turin interval. Yet, it was recent release, ‘THE LONELIEST’ that made our list. Heavily influenced by the emo scene of the 00s, this darker edge to Måneskin showcased more layers to their sound.
