France have rapidly developed my favourite national finals. The quality of their pop music is so incredibly, it’s just brilliant. SOA represent modern French pop and if there’s ever a song that can represent rap in the best way possible at Eurovision, it’s “Seule”. I absolutely love this, even though it’s only my #2 behind “Fulenn”. Fantastic effort! Though, about the name… SOA is the Dutch abbreviation for an STD, so that… may cause some cackles in the Netherlands…

I’m never usually a fan of rap, especially at Eurovision, but the fusion of rap and contemporary pop here is absolutely wonderful. Without doubt, C’est vous qui décidez is becoming one of those national finals that I just can’t miss – it produces some wonderful entries and perfectly shows how France is on the right track to cementing their place as a Eurovision powerhouse again, something that hasn’t been possible to say about France since their heyday of the 60s and 70s (bar two outstanding back-to-back entries in 2001 and 2002). In a year that’s shaping up to be on-par with 2011 and 2014 on the standard of entries, I really think “Seule” would be such a refreshing entry to add to the line-up and one that would really bring something new to the table. Granted: France aren’t going to place 2nd again this year, but I really think “Seule” could secure a confident left-hand-side placing for France.

Although I prefer a couple of other songs more, I am still a realist. This would easily be a worthy successor to Barbara Pravi and continue France’s momentum. Maybe not to the same level, but I can see a top 10 result for ‘Seule’ with the right staging. Both singers complement each other well without it coming across like a The Voice knock-out battle. The melody is carried with strong vocals, as well as the rap section. It also has an anthemic quality about it that is very friendly to the televote and the jury. As a commercial package it’s similar to ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ by ZAYN and Sia and it’s for that reason that I can see this doing very well if selected.
